Santa Claus Course: Compassion and Empathy 101 Our Mission Statement
In what way humans, ideally, exceed other lifeforms can be summed up in one category of evolved capabilities that best falls under a general heading: COMPASSION. Babies are not born with a lot of compassion, but in a normal course of development with siblings, parents and friends, compassion is developed. Even more-evolved animals exhibit great compassion for a mate or offspring. And “man’s best 4-legged friend” has even been known to cross the species line and put life and limb in danger to save a human family member in danger.
People, unfortunately, also have some not-so-ideal unique capabilities. And one of those is the ability to educate through role modeling and conditioning, a narcissistic ambivalence and selfishness that can even be made to exclude respect and compassion for one’s own children and family members, not to mention strangers.
Educators, artists and authors, historically — over centuries — have signed up for the task of filling the world with children who will become compassionate. Planting these seeds of compassion and empathy will be the factors that ultimately determine the fate of our children and future generations and the earth we live on.
This sites Mission Statement in one small part in this huge mission. We will try to keep the role and mission statement of one very influential hero ( of fiction? ) on this noble course. Let’s call it the “Santa Claus Course”. A course of teaching children the value and please derived through compassion and empathy!
